Pretest: Apply to a small area and allow to dry to ensure applicable appearance and penetration.
For previously stained wood: If the stain is not absorbed into the surface and is still tacky after 12 hours, the surface is not suitable for staining
For damp wood: If wood is too damp to allow penetration, allow to dry further and retest for penetration
